PrepVolleyball Announces HS Academic All-Americans

PHILADELPHIA – announced its 2013 High School Volleyball Academic All Americans and four of the University of Pennsylvania volleyball team’s incoming freshmen have been honored – Kendall Covington, Emmy Friedler, Morgan McKeever, and Sydney Morton. Of the 82 high school athletes across the nation honored, 12 will attend one of the Ancient Eight institutions in the fall. Four of those 12 committed to Penn; Harvard, Princeton, and Columbia have two each; Dartmouth and Yale have one each.

High school coaches sent in nominees that fit the criteria of being both an extraordinary student and volleyball player. The list is represented by five teams of eight (in no particular order) and a Highest Honorable Mention category.

Honored to the fifth team as the setter was Sydney Morton, who hails from Atlanta and played for Woodward Academy. Joining Morton is Emmy Friedler, who is one of two liberos on the fifth team and comes from Chicago’s New Trier High School.

Named to the Highest Honorable Mention category was Houston’s Kendall Covington and San Francisco native Morgan McKeever. Covington comes to Penn from Katy Taylor High School, while McKeever played for Burlingame High School.
