Princeton Defeats Women's Soccer, 2-0

Box Score

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Penn women's soccer team closed out the 2006 season with a 2-0 loss at Princeton Saturday afternoon. Despite tying the Tigers on the stat sheet with 10 shots apiece, the Quakers were victimized by Princeton's Lauren Thomas, who scored once in each half.

The first goal came with just under seven minutes left in the first half, when Thomas was able to dribble into the box and fire a shot past Penn keeper Sara Rose.

Later, as the match approached the hour mark, Thomas doubled Princeton's lead when her free kick from 20 yards out appeared to confuse Rose and sailed past her into the left side of the goal.

Penn (8-5-3, 1-4-2 Ivy) pressed the play after that and created a number of chances, but Princeton keeper Maren Dale was equal to every task in gaining her fourth-consecutive shutout. With the win, Princeton ended its season at 8-7-1, 3-4-0 in the Ivy League.

Rose had two saves for Penn; at the other end, Ellen Gregory had a pair of shots on goal, while Natalie Capuano, Nicki White and Molly Weir each tested Dale once with a shot on goal.
