PHILADELPHIA - Freshman fencer Evan Prochniak hopes to earn a high finish at the Junior Olympics held in Memphis, Tennessee Friday February 12 throught Monday February 15.
Prochniak most recently competed nationally in the North American Cup held in San Jose, California in January. At the event, the New Hampshire native took a silver medal in the senior men's sabre category, beating a field of over 140 fencers.
In the Junior Olympics, Prochniak is seated second in the junior men's sabre class. A strong finish in the competition could secure him a spot on the 2010 U.S. Fencing National Team for juniors or cadets, which includes the honor of competing at the 2010 World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, in April.
