PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its weekly award winners in women's soccer, and University of Pennsylvania freshman goalkeeper Kitty Qu was tabbed as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
This is Qu's first weekly honor, and it marks the second week in a row that Penn received the Rookie honor as midfielder Emily Sands was Ivy League Rookie of the Week last Monday.
Qu put together 200 minutes of shutout soccer over the weekend, gaining clean sheets in a 2-0 win over Towson and a 0-0 draw with Drexel. She was particularly outstanding in Sunday's match, coming up with six saves including a diving stop near the end of regulation that kept the tie intact. She also had a leaping save late in the first half. Overall this season, Qu has played all but 12 minutes between the pipes and boasts a 0.49 goals-against average which is 28th nationally. After this past weekend, Penn's shutout streak currently stands at 245 minutes 22 seconds of match action.
Penn is unbeaten through five matches since a season-opening loss to the University of Maryland. The Red and Blue complete a three-match homestand this Saturday by opening Ivy League play against Harvard. The Quakers and Crimson will kick off at 4 p.m. in the first half of a doubleheader, as the Penn men host neighborhood rival Drexel at 7 p.m.
