Quakers 12-Match Winning Streak Comes to an End at the Hands of Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team has forgotten what it feels like to lose over the past two months. However, on Friday, Harvard reminded the Quakers how it feels, handing the Red and Blue a 5-2 loss and its first loss since Feb. 19 against Baylor. More importantly its Penn’s first loss in the Ivy League and the loss ended their school record 12-match winning streak.

After being swept in the doubles point, Penn looked to regain its composure in singles. The Quakers fell in the hole 2-0 when Brandon O'Gara lost to Scott Denenberg at the No. 6 spot. The Quakers rallied back to tie the match winning at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions. Jason Pinsky defeated Ashwin Kumar 7-5, 6-2. Then Jonathan Boym downed Sasha Ermakov 6-1, 6-3.

With the score knotted at two, the Crimson won the next two points to win the match. Justin Fox fell to Nick Savage at No. 5 and Joseph Lok lost to Dan Nguyen at No. 4 to clinch the upset for Harvard. Chris Clayton beat Mikhail Bekker in three sets to end the match.

The loss drops Penn to 15-5 overall and 3-1 in the Ivy League.

The Quakers will look to rebound as they travel to Hanover, N.H. Saturday to take on Dartmouth at noon.
