ITHACA, N.Y. The University of Pennsylvania women’s volleyball team lost its second match of the weekend on Saturday. The Quakers were swept by Cornell, 30-18, 30-17 and 30-26;with the win, the Big Redremains the only undefeated team in the Ivy League.
Penn (6-9, 3-2) fell behind by as many as 13 points in game one. In game two, the Quakers were within striking distance until the Big Red reeled off six of the next eight points to take a commanding 20-11 lead.
The Red and Blue hung tough in the third game. They tied things at 15, and although Cornell scored the next two points Penn did not go away. Kathryn Turner and Amy Starosta recorded back-to-back kills to bring Penn to 23-22, but that would be the closest the Quakerswould get.
Cara Thomason led the Quakers with 21 kills, and Linda Zhang tallied six blocks.
Penn will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Villanova for a 5 p.m. start.
