PROVIDENCE R.I. - The University of Pennsylvania women's swimming and diving team lost to Brown 123-120 on Saturday. For Penn, it was their first Ivy League meet since Dec. 10.
Cameron Villarreal (10:25.86) picked up the Quakers first victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Theresa Altieri (10:31.77) placed second.The Red and Blue's next victory came in the 200-yard IMby Alison Bretherick(2:09.69). Bretherick (2:08.60) also placed second in the 200-yard butterfly.
Penn took the top two spots in the 200-yardbackstroke as Hayley Wolfgruber (2:07.78) and Erica Gentilucci (2:09.01) placed first and second respectively.The Quakers managed to win two of final three events, however it was not enough to salvage a victory over the Bears. Margot Newcomer (5:05.03) won the 500-yard freestyle and Megan Carlin (2:24.37) took the 200-yard breastroke. Brown won the 400-yard freestyle relay to seal the victory.
The Red and Blue are in action on Saturday, Jan. 21 when they travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on Yale and Dartmouth at 10 a.m.
