PHILADELPHIA In their final non-league match of the season the University of Pennsylvania (8-15, 5-6 Ivy League) women’s volleyball team lost to Temple (20-9, 9-2 Atlantic 10) 3-1. The Quakers took game one 30-17 but could not salvage the match as the Owls took the next three game 30-19, 30-17 and 30-25.
Penn boasted a .355 hitting percentage on its way to the victory in game one. However, they dropped off, never hitting above .100 in the final three matches. The Quakers hung with the A-10 East Division Champions in game four, but the Owls scored six consecutive points down the stretch to take game four and win the match.
Laura Black continued her consistent play on both sides of the net. She tallied 14 kills and 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Freshman Kathryn Turner scored 13 kills for the Quakers, while Linda Zhang dished out 38 assists. Elizabeth Hurst led the defense with 18 digs.
The Red and Blue will look to get back to the .500 mark in the Ivy League as they embark on their final three matches of the season. Penn hosts the Ivy League leaders, Cornell on Friday Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. On Saturday Nov. 12 the Quakers will try to avenge their loss to Columbia. The match starts at 4 p.m.
