Quakers have Strong Showing at Temple Open

PHILADELPHIA - TheUniversity of Pennsylvania men's fencing team opened its 2005-06 campaign with a strong showing at the Temple Open on Sunday. Ron Berkowsky and Ben Wiederfinished first in theirrespective weapons.

Berkowsky defeated Rutgers' Jesse Schabilia to win the foil. Wieder beat Ted Lauzenof Duke to win the epee championship.

Freshman Matthew Kolasa placed second in the sabre in his debut, while fellow freshman Hal Emmer took ninth place. Junior Dave DiPaola finished 33rd.

All-America Michael Galligan finished third in the foil. Freshman Vincent Lee came in 11th and Mike Gibaldi placed 76th.

Alex Tozzo placed 23rd and Noah Rohrer 27th in the epee.
