Quakers Open NCAA Tourney Against Army

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's volleyball team continues its season on Friday when it takes on Army in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The Quakers make their first appearance in the Big Dance since 2003 with a matchup against the Black Knights on Friday at 5 p.m. in University Park, Pennsylvania.

The winner of Penn and Army will most likely play number one overall seed Penn State, who takes on America East champion Binghamton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. The first round winners will face off Saturday at 7 p.m.

This marks the first trip to the NCAA Tournament for the Patriot League champion Black Knights. Army was the number one seed going into its conference tournament and didn't disappoint, winning both matches in straight sets behind setter Maureen Bannon and Conference Player and Rookie of the Year Ariana Mankus.

Penn meanwhile is making its fourth trip after capturing the school's eighth Ivy title in 2009. In the Quakers last foray into the Big Dance in 2003, they dropped a 3-1 decision to Pittsburgh, also played in University Park. The Red and Blue also lost its first round games in 2001 and 2002, its only other NCAA Tournament appearances.
