Quakers Topped by Columbia


PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania men's swimming and diving team lost to Columbia 197.5 - 102.5 on Saturday at Sheerr Pool.

Neville Mitchell (53.74) picked up the Red and Blue's first victory of the day in the 100-yard backstroke. Penn would go on to win the next two events. Yuchi Zhang (59.06) won the 100-yard backstroke followed by a Pat Maloney (1:54.38) victory in the 200-yard butterfly.

Tyler Markman (264.15) placed second in the 1-meter diving to give Penn four points. Mitchell (1:55.18) picked up his second victory of the day in the 200-yard backstroke. However, that would be the Quakers final win of the day. Columbia won the final six events to win the meet.

The Red and Blue will be in action again when they make their winter trip to Boca Raton, Fla. from Dec. 29 - Jan. 8.
