Philadelphia Sophomore Stephanie Reichert (Gibbstown, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and freshman Ann Ferracane (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker) were named Ivy League Softball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the week ending March 27.
Reichert, the designated hitter, batted .750 and hit a grand slam homerun to lead the Quakers to a double-header sweep of Rider in the Red and Blue's only two games last week. Over the two games, Reichert went a combined 6-for-8 with the grand slam, five runs batted in and two runs scored. In the first game, Reichert blasted her first career home run lift the Red and Blue to a 7-5 victory over the Broncs. She went 2-for-4 in the second contest. Reichert currently leads the team with a .438 batting average.
Ferracane threw a complete game, three-hitter and picked up a save in Penn’s doubleheader sweep. Ferracane got the start in game two, going the distance for the second time this season. She allowed just one run, unearned, on three hits and struck out four batters. In game one against the Broncs, Ferracane picked up her first save of the season throwing a scoreless inning of relief with a strikeout. Ferracane has a 2.59 ERA on the season and has struck out 46 batters in 51.1 innings of work.
The Quakers (8-10) will be back in action on March 31 as they travel to Lafayette for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
