Relay Teams Lead the Way for the Quakers


PRINCETON - The University of Pennsylvania women's swimming and diving team competed against Princeton and Cornell on Saturday.The Quakers took four of the 16 events including two individual events and two relays.

The Red and Blue started the day by winning the 200 yard medley relay. The team of Stephanie Colson, Megan Carlin, Tara Gillies anmd Laura Hotaling finished with a time of 1:47.81. Margot Newcomer (10:22.09) took second in the 1,000 yard freestyle and Carlin (1:06.81) also finished second in the 100 yard breastroke.Lindsey Gottschalk (2:25.53) gave the Quakers a boost with a second place finish in the 200 yard breastroke.

The Red and Blue's strongest showing came in the 200 yard IM. Alison Bretherick (2:11.48), Amy Ottensmeyer (2:12.21) and Erica Gentilucci (2:13.01) placed second through fourth respectively.Penn capped the day off with a victory in the 400 yard relay. Lauren Bergstrom, Colsen, Gillies and Jessica Aiellowon with a time of 3:35.99. The Quakers also placed teams in thrid, fourth and fifth place as well.

In the 1 meter diving, Janis Scanlon (245.95) placed second. Kenyon Lewis (219.95), Kelly Tek (216.70), Rebecca Zeitels (178.90) and Julia Brinberg (168.90) finished fourth through seventh place respectivley.

The Quakers host La Salle at Sheerr Pool on Tuesday, November 22 and 5 p.m.
