Bryan Ortenzio and Steve Robertson each captured individual titles Sunday at the Keystone Classic inside The Palestra. Ortenzio upheld his No. 1 seed, taking home the 133 lb. title with a 6-5 win over Harvard’s Steven Keith. This was Ortenzio’s second Keystone Classic title, after capturing the 2009 championship as well. In his first three matches, Ortenzio picked up three major decisions to move into the finals. For the senior, he also starts his senior season off with two straight tournament wins after winning the Binghamton Open last weekend.

Robertson, a freshman seeded fourth coming into the tournament picked up two upset victories to capture the 149 lb. crown. Robertson moved into the semifinals after a major decision in his opening round win and a convincing 14-8 victory over fifth-seeded Savva Kostis of Appalachian State in the quarterfinals. In that semifinal match, Robertson beat top-seeded Kaleb Friedley of Northwestern before winning his final match 3-1 over Boston’s No. 2 Nestor Taffur.

Robertson and Ortenzio were joined in the finals by another freshman, Lorenzo Thomas, at 165 lbs. Seeded third, Thomas used a major decision and fall to move into the quarterfinal round. From there, he picked up back-to-back one point decisions in the quarterfinal and semifinal round, punching his ticket into the finals. His two tight victories came 4-3 against Rider’s James Brundage and 9-8 against second-seeded Pierce Harger. In the finals, Thomas would fall to No. 1 Kyle Blevins, 7-6. Thomas was a hard-charger in his final two matches, coming back from 5-0 down in the first 30 seconds to take the win over Harger and almost doing it again in the final, falling one point shy of a comeback from 5-2 down against Blevins – who is ranked No. 19 in the country.

Northwestern took the team title, placing nine wrestlers en route to 140.0 team points. Appalachian State won a close race for second with 97.0 points. Rider was third with 92.5, Princeton second with 90.5, Harvard right behind with 90.0 and Penn was sixth with 84.5.
