Rowing Alumna Part of World Championship Crew

ETON, England - Penn rowing alumna Susan Francia C'04 has won a gold medal with the United States' women's 8+at the 2006 FISA World Rowing Championships on Dorney Lake in Eton, England.

The former Quaker standout helped the Americans break their own two-year-old world record in a time of 5:55.50, 1.05 seconds better than the previous mark setat the 2004 Athens Olympics. They led wire-to-wire, holding off Germany and Australia to win the gold.

During her time at Penn, Franciaearned numerous athletic and academic awards, including CRCA First-Team Mid-Atlantic honors in 2004 and second-team distinction in 2003, CRCA National Scholar-Athlete honors in 2003 and 2004, and Academic All-Ivy status in 2003.
