Freshman Sam Engs wasted no time beginning his Penn soccer career, scoring just 3:33 into his first career appearance on Friday night. His tally was the lone marker for Penn in a 2-1 loss to Air Force, but briefly brought the Quakers level in the match before the Falcons retook the lead.

For his efforts, Engs was named Philadelphia Soccer Six Rookie of the Week.

Engs checked into the match in the 66th minute and scored in the 69th minute, showing a nose for the ball as he stormed to the rebound of classmate Alex Murphy's shot and finding top corner for the first points of both players' college careers.

Engs is the first Penn player honored by the Philadelphia Soccer Six. Last year, Duke Lacroix was twice named PS6 Rookie of the Week.

Engs and the Quakers host Villanova on September 14 at 7:30 p.m. before a 1 p.m. tilt at Georgetown on September 16 as part of the Ivy League/BIG EAST Challenge.
