Sandberg Named Ivy Co-Offensive Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - Senior running back Joe Sandberg has been named the Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Week following his big performance in Penn's 21-11 win over No. 22 Lafayette Saturday.

In addition, senior safety Scotty Williams and junior punter Anthony Melillo were named the Ivy League Honor Roll.

Sandberg turned in a career day at Lafayette, rushing 24 times for a career-high 166 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-clinching 36-yard tote late in the fourth quarter. It is the first weeklyIvy League honor for the running back, who was a second team All-Ivy selection a year ago. Sandberg shares the honor with Harvard's Clifton Dawson, who ran for 170 yards and three touchdowns in the Crimson's win over Holy Cross.

Williams also had a fantastic game, making a career-high 11 stops, including half a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss. He also blocked a field goal try in the third quarter. Williams was an honorable mention All-Ivy last year.

Melillo was key in pushing the Leopards back, putting four of his six punts inside the 20, including one at the one-yard line and two at the seven-yard line. Melillo was named second team All-Ivy in 2005.

Penn (1-0, 0-0 Ivy) returns to action this Saturday with a primetime match-up with Villanova at Franklin Field at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on CN8 and heard locally on WFIL 560 AM.
