PHILADELPHIA – Alexis Sargent and Leah Allen of the University of Pennsylvania softball team were each honored by the Ivy League on Tuesday. Sargent earned her second-consecutive Pitcher of the Week nod, while Allen was selected as the league’s Co-Player of the Week.
Allen was a run-producing machine in the Quakers’ 3-1 home stand last week. The junior outfielder went 5-for-10 with nine RBI and two home runs. She was especially lethal during Penn’s doubleheader sweep of Lafayette, launching a grand slam in Game One. Allen knocked in all six of the Red and Blue’s runs in 4-0 and 2-1 victories over the Leopards.
Allen is currently second on the team with 13 hits so far this season, while driving in a squad-best 15 runs.
Sargent recorded a pair of wins last week, improving her record this season to 6-1. Not only did she not allow an earned run in either game, but also notched her fourth and fifth complete games of the season.
Against Lafayette last Wednesday, Sargent allowed just three hits and struck out nine in a 4-0 shutout of the Leopards. Sargent leads the Ivy League with an ERA of 1.19 in 41.1 innings.
Allen, Sargent and the rest of the Quakers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader against La Salle (3 p.m.).
