PHILADELPHIA – With their home opener set for tomorrow, Alexis Sargent of the University Pennsylvania softball team was named the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. It is the first weekly honor for the Quakers this season, and the second of Sargent’s career as she earned a Rookie of the Week nod in 2014.
Sargent was masterful in the circle during the second half of the Quakers' spring break trip to Florida last week. The junior right-hander tossed three complete games, on the way to an undefeated week and a paltry 1.05 ERA. She was especially dominant in Penn’s 3-0 win over Maine, striking out seven and shutting out the Black Bears. Sargent is now 4-1 on the season, with a 1.79 ERA over 27.1 innings.
Sargent also helped herself out at the plate, going 4-for-10 with four RBI over the final five games of the road trip.
The Quakers make their Penn Park debut tomorrow against Lafayette. Penn and the Leopards will play a doubleheader, beginning at 3 p.m.
