PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its weekly awards in women's soccer, and Penn freshman Kerry Scalora has been named Co-Rookie of the Week along with Brown's Mika Siegelman.
Scalora earns her first Ivy League award after scoring both of Penn's goals in a 3-2 loss to Navy on Sunday. The first came on a rocket from about 20 yards out that beat the goalie inside the left post, while the second one came off a rebounded shot that she put home despite pressure from the Navy defense.
Harvard's Melanie Baskind was named the Ivy League Player of the Week.
Scalora's goals put her at the top of Penn's points list through the weekend. She is one of four players to have scored twice this season, but the only one from that quartet to have an assist for her five points. Scalora and the Quakers are 4-4-0 so far this season, but won their Ivy League opener Friday against Harvard. Penn is back in Ivy action on Friday at Cornell, then faces Army in another non-conference game on Sunday.
