Schaffer Qualifies for U.S. Olympic Trials

PHILADELPHIA – Rising junior CJ Schaffer of the University of Pennsylvania men’s swimming and diving team qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials this past Saturday at the Berkeley Aquatic Club Memorial Day Meet.

Schaffer punched a ticket in the 200 breast, racing to a time of 2:17.1 in one of the final tune-ups for the trials set for June 26 - July 3 in Omaha, Neb. Schaffer touched the wall more than a second faster than the qualifying mark, which stands at 2:18.39.

Schaffer joins a heavy Penn contingent who will be competing at the Olympic Trials. The Quakers currently stand with 12 qualifiers on the men’s side, and a pair from the women’s team. The trials serve as the qualifying event for the U.S. Olympic team, which will represent the Red, White and Blue at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
