Schwartz Leads Quakers over Mountain Hawks; Teams Split Doubleheader

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Penn right-hander Steven Schwartz tossed six strong innings to lead the Quaker baseball team to a 4-1 win over Lehigh on Sunday at Goodman Field in the first game of a doubleheader. Lehigh defeated Penn in game two, 11-6, on the strength of four hits by Matt McBride.

Schwartz (1-2), a sophomore who had struggled in two previous starts, scattered seven hits over six innings pitched with four strikeouts and four walks to earn his first victory of the season.

Josh Corn went 1-for-3 with two RBI for the Quakers while Kyle Armeny was 3-for-4 while also driving in two runs.

Penn reliever Doug Brown picked up his first save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth.

In the second game, the Quakers took a 5-0 lead into the fourth inning, but the Mountain Hawks scored 11 runs in the next four innings to pull out the win.

Armeny, Corn and Alex Nwaka had two hits apiece for Penn.

The Quakers return to action on Wednesday, March 22, when they hit the road for Easton, Pa., to take on Lafayette at 3 p.m.
