Scotty Williams Ready For Yale Regional

PHILADELPHIA - Scotty Williams is on The Course at Yale and ready to begin play at the NCAA East Regional being hosted this weekend by the Bulldogs. Playing as an individual, Williams was slated to tee off at 9:40 a.m. from the first tee Thursday morning along with Columbia's Justin Lee and Lafayette's Erik Adolfsson;Williams will also play Friday and Saturday, but those tee times have not been announced.

Williams -- who earnedhis automatic bid as an individual after he took medalist honors at the Ivy League Championships from April 23-25 -- will compete with four other individuals and14 five-playerteams at Yale GC, a par-70 course that will playat 6,749 yards. In all, six 54-hole regionalswill beplayed May 20-22 around the country; from each regional,the low five teams and the low individual not from those teamswilladvance to the NCAA Championshipswhich willbe held June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.

(The other regional sites are the Capital City Club in Alpharetta, Ga.; The Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.; the Carlton Oaks Golf Course in San Diego, Calif.; the Traditions Club in College Station, Texas; and the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.)

Williams has had a strong spring. In addition to winning medalist honors at the Ivy Championships, he also placed second overall (behind teammate Chance Pipitone) at the Caves Valley Intercollegiate and was Penn's low scorer at the George Washington Invitational earlier this spring. Overall, Williams has a 74.5 stroke average over 20 tournament rounds this year,including a73.1 average in 13 spring rounds that is highlighted bya scintillating 69 on Baltusrol during the Ivy Championships. Four of Williams' 13 rounds this spring have been at or below par.

This will be Penn's first representation at NCAA competition in men's golf since 2007, when the Quakers competed as a teamat the West Regional in Tempe, Ariz.; from there,Pipitone qualified as an individual for the NCAA Championships in Williamsburg, Va.
