PHILADELPHIA -The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) has announced its Division I All-Region teams for 2012, as well as its National Scholar Athletes, and a program-record seven Penn women were honored.

For All-Region recognition, nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their team's varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.

In the Mid-Atlantic region, senior Jennifer Werkmeister earned first-team All-Region honors, her first time gaining CRCA recognition, while senior Kelly Burke was a second-team honoree for the third straight year. They were both members of Penn's varsity 8 this year; that boat went 4-7 during the regular season including a win over nationally ranked Minnesota. The varsity 8 also won the Orange Challenge Cup for the second straight year, defeating Syracuse and Northeastern; prior to these last two years, Penn's last time winning the Cup was 1995.

Five other members of the Penn program -- senior Chelsea Dommert, juniors Cassi Henderson and Katie Raynor, and sophomores Morgan Jones and Elizabeth Stulpin -- were named CRCA Scholar Athletes. In order to be eligible for Scholar Athlete recognition, a student-athlete must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career, and have competed in an NCAA-eligible boat for 75 percent of her team's races that season or at the Ivy League Championships.
