PHILADELPHIA--Seniors Omid Shokoufandeh and Alex Grendi were named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region. Shokoufandeh earned first team honors making him eligible for All-America honors. Grendi was named to the third team. It was the first such honor for both student-athletes.
Shokoufandeh had a breakout season in 2008, leading the Quakers with 22 points. Five of his nine goals this season have been game-winners. He has collected numerous weekly honors this season, and is the first Quaker in more than 10 years to collect more than 20 points in a season. In the post-season, Shokoufandeh was named to the All-Ivy first team and was also a third team CoSIDA Academic All-American.
A playmaker, Grendi led the team with five assists this season, giving him 20 in his career. That mark ties him for third in Penn’s all-time record books. He was recognized by the Ivy League with a unanimous first team selection.
The Quakers went11-3-4 on the season, winning the Ivy League title (5-1-1 Ivy)and a berth to the NCAA tournament.
