PHILADELPHIA--Men's soccer forward Omid Shokoufandeh was named the Ivy League and Philadelphia Soccer Seven Player of the Week as well as being named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
The senior scored twice in the final 20 minutes of Penn’s Ivy League opener against Cornell to equalize and win the game for the Quakers. The win preserved Penn’s unbeaten streak at 7-0-3 while the multi-goal game gave Shokoufandeh five on the season and his third game-winning goal. Earlier in the week, Shokoufandeh set up teammate Andrew Ferry for the Red and Blue’s first goal of a 3-2 win over Villanova. Shokoufandeh leads the Quakers scoring with five goals and three assists for 13 points.
Newcomer Christian Barreiro was named to the Ivy League honor roll for after setting up a late-game equalizer in Penn’s Ivy League opener against Cornell. The Quakers were able to score again and win to remain unbeaten on the season. Earlier in the week, Barreiro scored his second goal of the season in Penn’s win over city rival Villanova. Barreiro is one of just two freshmen to start this season and has started all 10 games.
Shokoufandeh, Barreiro and the Quakers play their final non-conference opponent of the regular season Tuesday at Lehigh. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
