NEW YORK CITY - Rising senior Will Simonton and his father, Scott, have won the U.S. National Father-Son Doubles Championship in New York.
The Simontons defeated their opponents, Noah and Robert Wimmer, 3-1 (11-15, 18-16, 15-8, 18-15), in the Open final after coming back from the brink of elimination in the semifinals against Preston and Taylor Quick. The Simontons were down to match point against the Quicks, but stormed back to take the match. Against the Wimmers, the Simontons had to overcome a first game loss to beat the defending champions.
Will Simonton, who is an avid doubles player, was a regular in the Quakers' line-up this season, playing primarily in the 6, 7, and 8 positions. During his freshman year, he reached the finals of the Intercollegiate Doubles competition.
