Smith Named Big 5 Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA – After a week in which he hit .467, Penn junior Jarron Smith was named Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Smith helped lead the Quakers’ offense to four wins this past week and even their Ivy League record at 4-4. He went 7-for-15 with a double, triple and home run. He also helped the Quakers advance to the semifinals of the Liberty Bell Classic by going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI against Saint Joseph’s. He broke open a 3-3 tie against Harvard with a three-run home run in the seventh to give Penn the victory.

Smith joins teammates Tim May (March 12) and Josh Corn (March 19) who also received Big 5 player of the week honors earlier this season.

Penn faces Lafayette Tuesday in the semifinals of the Liberty Bell Classic at 3:30 p.m. in Easton, Pa.
