PHILADELPHIA - In the final leg of the 2009 season, thePenn softball team heads to Drexel on Wednesday for its final non-conference matchup of the season. The Quakers will play the Dragons, who are currently 20-16 overall, at the Drexel Field with the first pitch of the doubleheader slated for 3:00 p.m.
The Quakers (12-25-1, 7-9 Ivy) are looking to continueits successafter their performance over this past Ivy weekend. The Red and Blue went 3-1 over Ivy nemesis Princeton, including a 10-8 come-from-behind win to end the series. Sarah Patrick and Jamie Boccanfuso both picked up their second home run of the season, while Jessie Lupardus picked up a win and a save from the mound. Lupardus currently leads the Quaker pitching staff with a team-low 1.72 ERA. Alisha Prystowsky and Boccanfusocontinue to be at the top of Penn's offensive statistics. Prystowsky leads the Red and Blue in batting average (.385), runs(29), hits (40), doubles (11), home runs (5) and slugging percentage(.654). Boccanfuso has a .342 batting average which is good enough for 40 hits and 23 RBI.
Scouting the Dragons
Drexel is currently on a five-game skid that includes a three-game sweep by James Madison this past weekend. Ashley Botelho paces the Dragon offense with a .405 batting average for 45 hits, six home runs, 21 runsand 28 RBI. Three other Dragons have a batting average better than .300.
The Dragon pitching staff is led by Hillary Allen who currently owns a 2.58 ERA and a 9-7 record from the mound.
Wednesday's doubleheader will serve as good preparation for the final Ivy weekend - Penn heads to Columbia for a doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a pair of games with the Lions at Warren Field for senior day on Sunday.
