PHILADELPHIA – Due to frigid temperatures and high chance of precipitation, University of Pennsylvania head softball coach Leslie King has announced that the home opener with Rider scheduled for Wednesday, March 4 has been canceled. In lieu of the doubleheader, the Quakers and Broncs will play a closed-scrimmage on Saturday. This is the second consecutive year that Penn has had to cancel its scheduled home opener and instead play its first game in Florida.
Despite not playing the scheduled games, King believes Saturday’s scrimmage will provide quality game reps to help prepare the team for Florida, where the Red and Blue will participate in the USF Under Armour Schowcase. They will first face Bowling Green on Friday, March 6 at 11:15 a.m.
