CLEARWATER, Fla. – After safely flying out of Philadelphia on Thursday, the University of Pennsylvania softball team was ready to kick off the season in the dirt and sun on Friday at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in the USF Under Armour Showcase. The Quakers did in fact begin their season in the dirt, but it was far from sunny as overcast skies eventually opened up, forcing them to play Bowling Green and Toledo in the rain. The Red and Blue came up one run short against both teams, falling to the Falcons in extra innings, 2-1, and then to the Rockets, 5-4.
Due to the winter storms up north, the schedule for the spring break slate has been altered. As it currently stands, Penn will play Dayton and Maine at 9 a.m. and 1:45 p.m., respectively, on Saturday. On Sunday, the Quakers will play Wagner at 9 a.m. and then Central Michigan right after at 11:15 a.m.
