Kissimmee, Fla. - The University of Pennsylvania softball team suffered a tough 7-1 loss to the Loyola-Chicago this morning at the Rebel Spring Games.
Loyola-Chicago opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as pinch runner Katie Duffy crossed the plate on a squeeze play. The Quakers (1-4) threatened several times over the next three innings, but stranded five baserunners.
The Red and Blue tied the score in the top of the sixth inning at freshman Christina Khosravi opened the inning with a double off the fence in left center. Junior Jen Nichols advanced Khosravi to third base with a sacrifice bunt and pinch hitter Melissa Haffner drove her in with a single up the middle. The Ramblers answered in the bottom of the inning as second baseman Trish Oberhaus sparked a six-rally with a double to left.
Khosravi went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while fellow freshman Annie Kinsey went 2-for-4 with a double.
Freshman Ann Ferracane had a solid outing going four innings, allowing one run and striking out five.
The Red and Blue’s second game of the day against Saint Peter’s was cancelled due to rain. Penn returns to action tomorrow, March 10, when it faces Holy Cross at 8:50 a.m. and Robert Morris at 10:40 a.m.
