Georgetown, Del. -- The University of Pennsylvania softball team fell to Monmouth, 7-1, in a rain-shortened Mizuno/Anderson Bat Bash at the Beach on Sunday. The Quakers placed fourth out of 12 teamswith the loss.
Monmouth struck in the bottom of the first inning, putting up five runs on five hits in the inning. Monmouth pulled ahead, 6-0, in the next inning with an RBI single to left field. Penn got on the board in the top of the fourth inningon a sacrifice fly bysophomore Melissa Haffner which scored rookie Christina Khosravi. Monmouth added a run in the bottom half of the inning to make the score, 7-1.
Khosravi finished the day 2-for-2, while Steph Reichert went 2-for-4 on the day.
The Quakers are next in action on Thursday, March 24, when they play a doubleheader at Lafayette. The first game begins at 2 p.m. and the second at 4 p.m.
