PHILADELPHIA - The Penn softball team will host Ivy nemesis, Princeton, for a pair of pivotal South Division doubleheaders this weekend. The first pitch of both twinbills is for 12:30 p.m. at Warren Field. The Tigers and the Quakers sit at second and third respectively, in the Ivy South Division, but aweekend sweep by the Quakers willallow the Redand Blue to surpass the Tigers for second.
Penn (9-24-1, 4-8 Ivy) will enter the weekend on a six-game skid after being swept by Cornell in Ithaca and by Temple last week. Alisha Prystowsky continues to lead the Quakers at the plate with a .383 average and five of the team's 10 home runs. Jamie Boccanfuso continues to have a standout rookie season. Boccanfuso's .345 batting average is good enough to be tied with Prystowsky for 35 hits a piece. Jessie Lupardus, is at the top of the Penn pitching staff and has a 6-6 record, while carrying a1.88 ERA. As a freshmen, Lupardus was the first pitcher in the Ivy League to beat Princeton last season.
Scouting the Tigers
Princeton (13-15, 7-5 Ivy) will enter the weekend having won six of its last eight games overall following a 2-4 start to the Ivy season. Most recently, the Tigers swept Columbia, 4-0- a team that sits at the bottom of the Ivy South Division and the entire Ancient Eight. Kathryn Welch paces the Tiger offense with a .430 batting average for 43 hits, 22 runs and 24 RBI. On the mound, Michelle Tolfa leads the Princeton pitching staff with a 3.83 ERA.
