PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team (24-16, 13-3 Ivy) will take its final break from Ivy League play this Wednesday when it welcomes Big 5 rival Temple (21-2, 9-5 Atlantic 10) to Penn Park. The matchup will be Penn’s final non-conference game of the regular season.

The Quakers trail the Owls 17-3 in the all-time series, with one tie, but split last season’s doubleheader at Temple. The Wednesday afternoon game will be head coach Leslie King’s last chance to allow her depth players to earn some valuable game experience heading into the final weekend of regular season play.

Penn has amassed an 11-13 record during non-conference play, and since returning from the Florida trip to begin the season, has gone 3-4 in its midweek games. The Quakers will look to continue what they accomplished in their most recent midweek contest, when they topped Drexel on April 17, 3-2. Samantha Erosa has led the way for Penn, batting .327 with 16 hits and eight RBI in non-conference play. Alexis Borden has pitched well in non-Ivy games as well, posting a 1.47 ERA and a 6-6 record in 13 starts, including two shutouts. The sophomore has also been nearlyflawless in the circle during the midweek games. Borden has a 0.37 ERA, a 2-1 record, and 17 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched during those contests.

Temple is led by Stephanie Pasquale, Sarah Prezioso and Kelsey Dominik. Pasquale (.469 batting average) and Prezioso (.405) are first and second on the Owls with 55 and 42 RBI, respectively. Dominik leads Temple with a 10-3 record and a 3.76 ERA in 83.2 innings pitched.

The Quakers will make sure not to look past Temple despite the importance of this weekend’s series against Columbia. Penn can clinch home field advantage in the Ivy League Championship Series by taking three of four from the Lions. However, it can also clinch by winning one more game than Dartmouth or two more than Harvard; the two North Division-leading squads will go head-to-head this weekend to decide the division.

The Red and Blue’s final non-conferencetune-up is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon at Penn Park. Live stats will be available HERE and make sure to follow @UPennSoftball for live in-game updates and conversation as well.
