Game Two Box Score

ORLANDO – The Quakers fell victim to two squads seeking revenge today. Valparaiso, who had lost to Penn earlier this week, 9-1, beat them 4-2, while Lehigh, who lost to the Quakers twice last year, won 3-1.

In the first game of the day, the Crusaders got off to a head start, as their first battle hit a double, and was brought home two batters later on another double, giving Valpo the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the first inning, Brandi King singled to left field, to bring home senior Stephanie Reichert, and tie it up at 1-1.

The game stayed tied until the top of the fourth, when Valparaiso scored three runs on sophomore pitcher Emily Denstedt. Freshman Susan Miller came in with a runner in scoring position, and forced a ground out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Reichert hit one of her three doubles to get on base. Junior Christina Khosravi came up next, and hit a double of her own to bring home the run, and close the lead to 4-2. Despite several more chances, Penn couldn’t bring home runners, and they lost, 4-2.

Reichert led the Quakers offensively, as she went 4-for-4, with three doubles and a single, scoring both of Penn’s runs. Khosravi was 2-for-3 with a RBI, and King was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Miller pitched 3.1 innings, allowing only two hits and no runs.

Against Lehigh, strong pitching by the Mountain Hawks proved to be a problem for the Quakers. Sophomore Lisa Sweeney pitched a no-hitter, as she faced 23 batters, striking out five. Penn’s lone run came when junior Annie Kinsey reached first on an error, and advanced on a wild pitch. She was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Reichert, giving the Quakers a 1-0 lead in to top of the first.

Lehigh scored two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead, and scored again in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the win. With the win, the Mountain Hawks improved to 5-9, while Penn evened out at 4-4.

Up next the Quakers will take on South Dakota State and Farleigh-Dickinson tomorrow, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., in their last day of Rebel Spring Games action.
