PHILADELPHIA – The Penn softball team (4-9) is preparing for its first game action not in the state of Florida this season. The Quakers will head to SJU Softball Field on Wednesday afternoon for a Big 5 doubleheader against Saint Joseph’s (10-3-1) with first pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Penn is coming off a tough spring break road trip in which it dropped nine of 13 games. Despite that, there were some bright spots for the Red and Blue, including a few new faces making their Penn debuts.

Lauren Li and Amanda Gisonni made their impact in the circle. In addition, Li also swings the bat very well. The freshman is second on the team with a .375 batting average after making one start at third and another as the designated player.

Kanani Datan started four games in the outfield, but primarily made an impact around the base pads with her exceptional speed as a runner. Lastly, Korinne Raby exploded onto the scene for the Quakers, showcasing her power at the plate with a couple home runs to lead the Ivy League, a .429 slugging percentage and 12 total bases. Head coach Leslie King managed to squeeze the Milton, Ga. native into the lineup however she could – Raby started a catcher, designated player and third base.

Leading the Quakers in the circle now is Alexis Borden. The sophomore returns for a second season after taking the Ivy League by storm as the Rookie of the Year. Borden leads Penn in every pitching category and leads the Ivies with 46 strikeouts.

The Red and Blue will look to better their results from the previous matchup with the Hawks, as the Quakers dropped both games of last season’s doubleheader at Penn Park, 1-0 and 3-1.
