PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania’s Head Softball Coach, Leslie King, has announced the Quakers’ 2016 schedule. The four-time defending Ivy League South Division champions will play 19 games at Penn Park and begin the 2016 campaign at the South Florida Invitational on March 4.

What they are saying...

Coach King
“"We are excited to be heading south again for the USF Under Armour Invitational for spring break. It’s an opportunity to see some strong Division I competition from other regions and help us prepare for the Ivy League. We are also so fortunate here in Philly to have so many high-caliber Division I teams nearby to play mid-week. Our focus is always on conference play, and with the parity in the league, all of the games this year should be challenging and hard-fought contests. We look forward to that challenge!"

Senior Captain Kanani Datan
“I am extremely excited about the schedule this season. The annual trip to Florida will be a perfect opportunity for us to play a lot of games and get ready for conference action. As always, the Ivy League will be filled with tough matchups -- and we will have to be prepared every game.”

Senior Captain Lauren Li
“The schedule this season will be an opportunity for our team to see how we stack up against some of the top teams in our conference and region. As a senior, I am excited to play this slate of games in my final season as a Quaker.”

5 Things to Know about 2016...

- Penn will kick off the 2016 season by traveling to Tampa, Fla. for a spring break tournament at the University of South Florida. The Quakers will play 11 games in seven days -- with contests against St. Bonaventure, Providence, Texas State, Illinois, Detroit, Maine, Butler, Northern Kentucky, and North Florida.

- Coach King’s squad will play five more non-conference doubleheaders and two single-game match-ups following the trip to the Sunshine State. Intra-city tussles against La Salle (3/23), Villanova (4/5), Drexel (4/13) and Saint Joseph’s (4/20) highlight the non-Ivy slate.

- Penn will slide into conference action on April 1 with a doubleheader against Brown. The Quakers begin their defense of the South Division crown when they travel to Princeton for a four-game set on April 16-17. Penn went 13-7 overall in the Ivy League last season and 9-3 against South Division opponents.

- Dartmouth, the two-time defending Ancient Eight champions, will host the Quakers for a doubleheader on April 8. The Big Green and Penn have played in the last three Ivy League Championship Series, with Penn claiming the title in 2013.

- The 2016 Ivy League Championship Series will take place on May 7-8, with the winner of the South Division taking on the winner of the North Division on the campus of the team with the best record.

Bonus Fact for 2016...
The Quakers are 37-11 against South Division foes over the last four seasons and have registered a record of .500 or better in the Ivy League during eight of the last nine years.
