Softball Set for Single Midweek Showdown with Owls

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off a pair of identical wins to sweep Yale in the Ivy opener, the University of Pennsylvania softball team is set to host Big 5 rival Temple at Penn Park for a midweek single game at 4 p.m. Wednesday’s contest will be the third Big 5 opponent of the season for the Quakers, after already facing Saint Joseph’s and La Salle. With the 3-0 wins over Yale, the Red and Blue have improved to 6-11 overall, 2-0 Ivy.

After having to endure a washed-out weekend, Penn shined in its Ivy League opener, taking down Yale. The 3-0 victories were the first ever identical shutout scores in an Ivy League doubleheader.

Freshman Alexis Sargent was the catalyst of the day for the Quakers, both with her bat and her arm, as she notched a home run in each game -- her 3rd and 4th of the season, respectively -- and silenced the Bulldogs in the second contest with a complete-game shutout.

Sargent’s performance came after junior Alexis Borden delivered a shutout of her own. Borden was dominant in game one, allowing only three base runners (2 H, 1 BB) while striking out four, and went the distance to give Penn its first Ivy League win of the season.
