PHILADELPHIA The Penn softball team will host Monmouth on Saturday for a doubleheader that is set to start at 1 p.m., on Warren Field. The Quakers are currently 4-11 on the season, while Monmouth is 6-3.
On Wednesday, the Red and Blue dropped two to Saint Joseph’s at the home opener. In the first of the doubleheader, the Quakers got out to an early lead by were unable to seal the win with some late runs from the Hawks for a 4-1 decision. In the second, the Hawks got the best of the Hawks topped Penn 10-0.
Ivy League Rookie of the Week (3/17) Jamie Boccanfuso leads the Quakers offense with 15 hits and 10 RBI, while owning a .333 batting average.
The Monmouth Hawks had a tournament cancelled last weekend, which pushes back their most recent game to Mar. 11, when they split a doubleheader with Winthrop. Emily Delong paces the Hawks with 11 hits including three home runs and 12 RBI, while boosting a .423 batting average and a 1.038 slugging percentage.
Last season the Red and Blue split with Monmouth in Penn’s first game following the Rebel Spring Games in Florida. The Quakers defeated the Hawks 5-2, but followed it up with a 6-4 loss.
