Drexel, La Salle, Saint Joseph's, Temple, and Villanova will round out the field that features all six of the Division I softball programs in Philadelphia. This tournament will honor the late Rocci Pignoli, former head coach of the Temple Owls' softball team.
The six Philadelphia schools will be split into two pools for this tournament; with the winner of each pool will advancing to the championship game. Pool A will feature Saint Joseph's, Villanova, and La Salle, while Penn will be in Pool B alongside Temple and Drexel.
Play begins on Friday, September 30 at 5 p.m. when La Salle takes on Villanova. Villanova will then take on Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m. in the second game of the evening. Saturday morning, the tournament resumes with Pool B beginning play with Drexel and Temple at 10 a.m.
The Quakers will start off pool play at noon against Temple. At 2 p.m., Penn will take on Drexel; closing out Pool B. Pool A will wrap up its schedule when Saint Joseph's and La Salle return to Penn Park at 4 p.m. After the completion of pool play, a home run derby, featuring two players from each team will be held at 6 p.m. To close out the tournament, the winner of Pool will take on the winner of group two in the championship game, slated for 7 p.m.
Last year's tournament was divided between the fall and spring seasons. In the fall, Penn and Saint Joseph's each advanced from their respective pools. This past spring, the two squads met to decide the championship and it was the Hawks who came out in top at Warren Field.
