Softball's Joyner Named Ivy Rookie of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Announced by the Ivy League on Tuesday, University of Pennsylvania freshman Jurie Joyner earned her second consecutive Rookie of the Week honor. Recognized by the League for her performance during this past week’s six games, Joyner started all six contests and led the team with a .476 batting average and .810 slugging percentage. The McDonough, Ga. native was the only Quaker to reach double-digit hits (10), which included a double and two home runs. Joyner also drove in 10 RBI and collected a total of 17 bases.

Currently, Joyner holds the second best batting average in the Ivy League at .439 and has the second most RBI in the League (21) behind teammate Alexis Sargent.

In conference contests only, Joyner is batting .520 and slugging 1.120. She has driven in 17 of her 21 RBI against Ivy opponents and has now hit a home run against the past three Ancient Eight foes (Harvard, Brown, and Yale).

The freshman also had a 10-game hit streak from March 22-April 3.

Along with Joyner, senior Alexis Borden and sophomore Alexis Sargent were recognized by the Ivy League on the weekly honor roll.
