Softball's Li and Borden Garner Weekly Ivy Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. – After a strong ending to the spring break slate, the University of Pennsylvania softball team has been once again recognized by the Ivy League in this week’s awards. Announced on Tuesday, junior captain Lauren Li was named Player of the Week while senior Alexis Borden earned her second-consecutive Pitcher of the Week this season. This time around, Borden shares the honor with Yale freshman pitcher Francesca Casalino, who also earned this week’s Rookie of the Week honor. With just a week away from Ivy play, the Quakers currently hold the best record in the League at 6-5.

Li collects her first collegiate Player of the Week award from the Ivy League after finishing a strong spring break campaign with a nine-game hit streak. Batting .500 and slugging .643 in the final five games of the trip, Li scored three runs and drove in two. In the circle, Li threw seven strikeouts and earned her first win of the season against Bowling Green. She also tossed an inning of relief in the second game against Central Michigan and did not allow a hit or earned run.

Currently, Li leads Penn with 19 total bases and a .438 average. She is second in the League in the batting average race.

Borden earns her second consecutive Pitcher of the Week honor after finishing the final five games with a 0.49 ERA, allowing only one earned run across 14.1 innings. She hurled 15 strikeouts and leads the League with 45. Borden recorded her third win of the season over Central Michigan and first save against Syracuse.

In addition to Li and Borden earning the major weekly awards, both sophomore Alexis Sargent and freshman Jurie Joyner were named to the Ivy Honor Roll.
