PHILADELPHIA – Coming off a 2011 Ivy Championship, sprint football will be back on the field for the first time Saturday against a very familiar foe. The season officially gets underway next Friday at Cornell, but this weekend former sprint football stars and current players will take the field against each other in the annual Alumni game. Kickoff is at noon at Franklin Field.
The game is just one of the highlights of Alumni Weekend. On Friday, Penn hosts the Athlete and Alumni Networking Event where current Quakers have the opportunity to meet former players for career advice with a reception to follow.
In last season’s game, the team defeated the Alumni 21-19 for one of the closest wins in history. Todd Busler, a 2011 graduate who transitions to the Alumni team this year, led the Penn offense throwing for 151 yards and rushing for another 63. Nick Rush secured the win for the current Quakers with a late interception.
The 2012 Quakers play two games on the road before their home opener Friday Oct. 5 against Mansfield at Franklin Field at 7 p.m.
