Sprint Football Names Four Captains

PHILADELPHIA - With the calendar year turning to 2012, sprint football is already begging preparations for next fall. Leading the team onto the field next season will be seniors Shane Curry, Anthony DiBella, Whit Shaw, and Chris Twombly. These four have been selected to serve as captains for the upcoming 2012 season.

DiBella will be entering his second season as a captain in 2012 after also serving as a captain during his junior year in 2011. He was named a first-team All-CSFL performer in each of the last two seasons and an honorable mention honoree as a freshman. The winner of the Benjamin F. Wagner Spirit Award winner in 2011 played in all seven games and compiled 48 tackles (31 solo), which was the second best mark on the team last season.

Shaw also served as a captain during the 2011 season and will be entering his second season as captain next fall. Shaw has been named first-team All-CSFL in each of his first three seasons at Penn. This past season, Shaw was a first-team selection on special teams to go along with being a second-team wide receiver. He was also named the Timothy Ortman Outstanding Offensive Back/Receiver and earned the Special Teams award at the annual banquet.

Curry will be entering his first season as captain after serving as a key part of Penn's offensive line in each of his first three seasons at Penn. Curry was named honorable mention All-CSFL as a freshman and sophomore. This past season he was a second-team All-CSFL performer and received the team's Dan Doheny Outstanding Lineman Award at the banquet.

The fourth captain, Twombly, came to Penn as a running back, but made the transition to a full-time defensive player in 2011. Playing in all seven games, Twombly was named honorable mention All-CSFL as a defensive back. He finished the season with 43 total stops, including 29 solo to go along with a pair of interceptions.
