Squash Teams Gear Up for Weekend in New England

PHILADELPHIA - It is a busy weekend of action for the Penn men's and women's squash teams, as the Quakers hit the road for three matches in New England over Saturday and Sunday. Both teams are slated to face Yale and Bates on Saturday in New Haven, Conn., before heading up 95 to face Brown on Sunday in Providence, R.I.

The marquee match of the weekend features the Penn and Yale women, who will face off Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Bulldogs' Brady Squash Center. Yale -- which is playing its regular-season opener -- is ranked No. 2 in the latest College Squash Association rankings, while Penn is fifth. The Quakers, of course, are 2-0 after rolling to 9-0 wins over Cornell and Franklin & Marshall. These teams have actually already seen each other once this year, as Yale knocked Penn off at the Ivy Scrimmages a few weeks ago.

On the men's side, Yale is also ranked second nationally while the Penn men are ninth. The Quakers are 0-2, having fallen 5-4 to Cornell and 8-1 on Wednesday at F&M.

Following the Yale matches, Penn's teams are scheduled to face Bates that afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Brady Center. Both Bobcats teams enter the weekend ranked 12th nationally.

Sunday's matches are scheduled for 11 a.m. (men) and 1 p.m. (women) at Brown's Brodsky Squash Pavilion. Brown's men's team enters the weekend ranked 14th, while the women are 10th. Both of them are 1-1 on the young season, losing to Harvard but beating Tufts. Both Bears teams face Princeton on Saturday before hosting the Quakers.
