Stanton Named Ivy Special Teams Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - Senior defensive lineman J.J. Stanton has been named the Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.

Stanton blocked a key field goal attempt in the third quarter ofPenn's 16-0 shutout of Columbia on Saturday. With the Lions’ Jon Rocholl attempting a 32-yard kick, Stanton got his shoulder pad on the ball and Penn managed to recover. The play sparked the Quakers' offense to a four-play, 78-yard touchdown drive.

It wasn't the first time this season Stanton had blocked a field goal - he also did it in the season opener at Lafayette. It was his third career blocked kick.

In addition to Stanton's honor, senior running back Joe Sandberg earned a spot on the Ivy League Honor Roll for his 101-yard, two-touchdown performance against Columbia.

Penn returns to action this Saturday when it travels to Yale for a 12:30 p.m. kick. The game will be televised live on CN8.
