PHILADELPHIA – Sydney Stipanovich of the University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team was named Ivy League Co-Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. It is the second such award for the Quakers this season, as sophomore Michelle Nwokedi earned the same distinction on November 30.
Stipanovich was nothing short of spectacular in Penn’s victory over city-rival Drexel on Saturday. The junior forward poured in a season-high 27 points, on 10-of-13 shooting, in a five-point triumph for the Quakers. Not only stellar scoring the ball, she also hauled in nine rebounds, blocked two shots, and dished out a pair of assists.
Stipanovich currently ranks fourth in the Ivy League in rebounds per game (8.8) and third in blocks per game (2.4). The defensive stalwart is also averaging 13.9 points per game, which puts her ninth in the conference.
Not only was the victory over Drexel an outstanding performance by Stipanovich, but it also signified the 500th win in the career of Head Coach Mike McLaughlin.
