Successful Opening Day For Women's Rowing

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing had a successful day of racing at the season-opening Navy Day Regatta on Saturday. The Quakers competed in five divisions at the race, with boats winning four of them and the top Collegiate 8+ boat finishing second in theirs.

In the College 4+, Penn’s A boat took first on the Schuylkill River’s three-mile course with a time of 14:09.15, well ahead of second-place Saint Joseph's (14:40.92) and the other 18 boats in the field. The Quakers' B boat wasfifth in 14:54.48, while Penn's C boat was ninth in 15:23.22..

In the 10-boat Collegiate JV 8+ division, Penn took first place in 13:28.34, nearly 40 seconds ahead of second-place Rutgers (14:07.29).

The only division Penn did not win on Saturday was the Women's Collegiate 8+, which featured 21 boats. The Quakers' A boat clocked 13:19.67, which was a little less than three seconds off the pace set by Navy (13:17.07). Penn's B boat was seventh (14:01.61), while Penn's C boat was 11th (14:22.07).

In the Novice 8+ division, Penn’s time of 13:56.95 was ahead of second-place Navy (14:16.42) and seven other boats, while in the Novice 4+ division the Quakers swept the top three spots with theB boat first (15:43.38), theA boat second (15:55.79), and the C boat third (16:35.06).
