INDIANAPOLIS – Penn freshman distance freestyler Chris Swanson got his NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships started on Thursday afternoon, competing in the preliminaries for the 500 Freestyle. The three-day event is being held at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
Though Swanson fell short of his Penn school-record time of 4:21.82 – which put him third at this year’s Ivy League Championships – he still clocked a time of 4:23.89, finishing 44th in the nation in the event.
Swanson is without an event tomorrow, so he’ll be well-rested as he readies for his second and final event on Saturday. The freshman took home the Ivy League title in the 1650 Freestyle this season with a time of 15:02.11 to set yet another Penn school record. He aims to break the 15-minute barrier to lower that Quaker standard even more as he wraps up his first time at this national meet.
